Note: Google differs from Microsoft in that it initially requires setting up either text of phone notifications.  You can enable other methods in addition to text or phone, such as phone notifications of an authenticator app.

  1. If you have a district phone, make sure that you're signed in to your Passaic Google account on your district phone.
  2. Go to your Google Account Settings page
  3. Click 2-Step Verification - it should say off right now
  4. Click Get Started
  5. Enter your Google password and click Next
Google may skip this step depending on how recently you've signed in
  6. If you are logged in on your Android device with your Passaic account, you should see your phone listed as a device that can get prompts.
If you see the correct phone, click Continue, otherwise skip this step
  7. Enter your phone number
    1. Select Text message
    2. Confirm the code you got via text and click Next
  8. Click Turn on

You should then be taken back to the 2-Step Verification page.

If you didn’t get the option to allow Google prompts, it may be helpful to set up an Authenticator App instead.  (You can do this even if you already receive the prompts, too.):

  1. On the 2-Step Verification page, under Authenticator App, click Set Up

  2. Select the correct phone type and click Next

  3. Use the Microsoft Authenticator app you already have on your phone
    1. Open the Authenticator app on your phone
    2. Click + in the top right corner to add an account
    3. Select Other account (Google, Facebook, etc.)
  4. Scan the QR code that's on the screen
  5. You'll be asked to verify the numbers that are currently in the Authenticator app.  The numbers refresh every 30 seconds.
