PPS-Guest works through a pin code system. PIN codes can be requested by district employees for visitors by filling out this form. Upon connection to the wireless the visitor is taken to a login page to enter their PIN code. PIN codes can be requested for a maximum of one week of access.
Staff Procedure
A staff member must fill out the form for PPS-Guest access for the guest that is visiting. Ideally, the staff member that is inviting the guest should fill this out, but technicians can fill this out if the details are given to them.
Guest Procedure
- Visitor arrives and connects to PPS-Guest.
- A web page will open to a login page.
- The visitor enters the PIN code given to them by whomever invited them.
- Visitors will then be redirected to passaicschools.org/guest where they can download and install our filtering certificate.
- Registrations are valid for 8 hours.
Important Notes
- The network team will only provide a PIN code if there is a matching ticket in the helpdesk system.
- The certificate only needs to be installed once per device. Failure to install the certificate may lead to browsing issues and broken pages.
- Passaic devices are blocked from accessing PPS-Guest.
- District staff personal devices are not allowed.
- Devices on PPS-Guest cannot talk to any internal services, this includes and is not limited to, printers, servers, smartboards, etc.
Known Errors
- Some devices have trouble with captive portals and do not open the web page automatically after connecting to PPS-Guest. Should this happen, the user can open any web browser, browse to a non-cached site, and be redirected to the captive portal. Apple users specifically run into this issue frequently. Good sites to try are neverssl.com or notpurple.com.
- Registrations are valid for 8 hours if the mac address of the device does not change. Devices that use randomized mac address will have to disable the feature or they will have to go through the registration process each time they reconnect.
